The Story Behind ReWine Barrels

Renewed French oak wine barrels used for Patty Green whiskey

"Some of the best ideas aren't invented. They're discovered by asking a different question."

When people think about whiskey, they usually think about the barrel.

American oak.

New char.

Years of aging.

It's one of the defining characteristics of bourbon and American whiskey.

At Patty Green Whiskey Distillers, we respect that tradition. But we also come from a different tradition—one shaped by decades of making Pinot Noir in Oregon's Ribbon Ridge.

That perspective led us to ask a simple question:

What if a whiskey barrel could tell two stories instead of one?

The answer became ReWine Barrels.

A Different Beginning

Long before Patty Green Whiskey Distillers existed, Patricia Green Cellars had spent more than two decades working with French oak barrels.

Every harvest, those barrels became part of the winemaking process, quietly shaping Pinot Noir through patience rather than force. Over time, they developed their own character—one that reflected both the oak itself and the wines they had matured.

Most distilleries begin with brand-new barrels.

We began with barrels that already had a story to tell.

Giving Oak a Second Life

Rather than retiring these barrels, we saw another opportunity.

Each carefully selected French oak barrel is refurbished before beginning its next chapter. The interior is renewed, exposing fresh oak while preserving the subtle influence of years spent aging Oregon Pinot Noir.

The result isn't simply a reused barrel.

It's a barrel with history, craftsmanship, and renewed purpose.

That philosophy inspired the name:

ReWine.

A second life for exceptional oak.

Where Wine Meets Whiskey

The connection between wine and whiskey is deeper than most people realize.

Both begin with agriculture.

Both depend on fermentation.

Both are shaped by oak.

Both reward patience.

Our background in winemaking taught us that great flavor isn't created by one ingredient or one decision. It's the result of hundreds of thoughtful choices made over time.

That same philosophy guides every barrel we fill.

Instead of masking the whiskey, ReWine barrels contribute layers of texture, subtle fruit character, spice, and remarkable depth while allowing the grain itself to remain the focus.

The whiskey never loses its identity.

It simply gains another dimension.

A Reflection of Oregon

ReWine Barrels are more than a production technique.

They're a reflection of where Patty Green Whiskey Distillers comes from.

Every refurbished barrel connects our whiskey to the vineyards, growers, and wines that helped shape our philosophy long before we filled our first whiskey barrel.

It's a reminder that innovation doesn't always require abandoning tradition.

Sometimes it comes from looking at familiar materials in a new way.

Craft Over Convention

We don't use ReWine Barrels because they're different.

We use them because they create whiskey that better reflects our vision.

Every barrel is selected intentionally.

Every finish is evaluated patiently.

Every release is designed to express balance rather than novelty.

The goal has never been to make whiskey that tastes like wine.

The goal is to make whiskey that carries the same respect for craftsmanship, ingredients, and place that has guided Patricia Green Cellars for decades.

More Than a Barrel

Every bottle of Patty Green Whiskey tells two stories.

One begins in Oregon grain fields.

The other begins in Oregon vineyards.

Together, they create something that couldn't exist anywhere else.

That's the story behind ReWine Barrels.

And it's one of the many ways Patty Green Whiskey Distillers continues to prove that great whiskey, like great wine, begins long before the barrel.
